Hanging out with Shamilla Miller!

Best known for her role as Ayesha, a young student and excellent surfer on SABC 1’s Amaza, Shamilla Miller(25) is the complete opposite of the character millions of viewers across Mzansi have been watching every Monday night .
So, we meet up at a cool hangout spot in Town.

Sporting a tattoo on her arm, it immediately caught my attention ''My tattoo represents the coordinates of where I was born,"she adds. Shamilla decided to get a tattoo at the age of 20 , as she always wanted a tattoo.

Playing the role of Ayesha on Amaza, her character has had quite a journey, starting out as a timid, Muslim young lady.Later, she began to explore her own identity away from her conservative, middle-class family. Shamilla defines her experience on Amaza as ‘’great’’. Although, the filming process at Muizenberg Beach proved to be quite a challenge, especially the rainy and windy conditions.
Shamilla reveals that she does not surf a lot. Truth is, she couldn’t surf at all before she got cast in Amaza. She decided to take surfing lessons at Gary’s Surf School in Muizenberg and learnt to surf that very same day.
''It was difficult, but I was so driven - I had no choice,''she says.
Amaza also sent her for surfing lessons for two weeks. ''I am not a surfer at all,''she jokes.

Shamilla has always wanted to be an actress, since a young age. Having attended Hottentots Holland High school, she acted in plays and did Dramatic Arts as a subject at School. She also had the opportunity to spend two days on set of Egoli, when she completed an internship there in Grade 11.
She went on to study Film and Live Performance at AFDA.
When she is not acting, you will find her being quite adventurous - whether it’s trips to Seal Island or Table Mountain! She also enjoys spending time with her boyfriend Raymond – who she has been dating for two years and lives with in Town.
Her ultimate guilty pleasure would be spending time at beaches in Cape Town such as Clifton and Camps Bay.

Starting out in the acting industry, she reveals her dad was more supportive than her mom. However, through her hard work having played various roles in theatre productions, alongside the likes of David Kramer and movie roles , her dads is

Shamilla finds it hard to single out one career highlight thus far.
''I learn from every experience and project that helps me grow, as an actress,"
she says.
She reveals the perks of being an actress is that it can be lots of fun,
being on the move constantly and meeting different people. However, she reveals glitz and glam is only 10 percent .

Growing up in Gordons Bay, Shamilla comes from a multi-faith background. Her mother is Christian and her father is Muslim.

Shamilla will be starring in a short film T-Junction soon and has her eye set on bagging a number of movie roles.
