All about the 2016 Cape Town International Jazz Festival

2016 Cape Town International Jazz Festival headliner, Angie Stone.

The 17th Cape Town International Jazz Festival was definitely one for the books. Compared to last year, it is safe to say that I had too much fun. It's always fun bumping into people you haven't seen in a while, and of course meeting new people adds that extra bit of fun!
American singer, Angie Stone falling ill just hours before her performance seemed to have taken it's toll on her. She wasn't the powerhouse singer everyone expected to see. However, she tried her best to pull through and entertained festino's with her new hits and old ones like I Wish I Didn't Miss You Anymore.Highlights on day one was definitely Abigail Kubeka and Dorothy Masuka, who brought back the 50s era with their Marabi-inspired sounds. I also enjoyed Dr. Victor And The Rasta Rebels and American R&B trio, SWV. Favourite's on day two was definitely BadBadNotGood from Canada, who performed a fusion of music genres such as jazz, dance music and pop. They had everyone in awe when they called American rapper, Mos Def on stage. Someone in the crowd even asked him "Where is your passport?"
The most awkward moment of the festival had to be when Arts and Culture minister, NathiMthethwa was booed off stage during Mafikizolo's performance.

American jazz singer,Cassandra Willson had the matured crowd eating out of the palm of her hands. R&B singer, Nathi gave festino's a double dose of his hit single, Nomvula. He performed the original version as well as his own remix. Mafikizolo was definitely one of my favourite performers on the night, they sang their popular hits taking audience members down memory lane with Ndihambanawe and sang some of their more recent hits. Their energy and dance moves had me wanting more even though their set was more than an hour long. Khuli Chana, Muzart and Lana Crowster all deserve a mention for representing SA like a boss!
I can't wait to do it all over again next year!!!

1 on 1 with Carl Wastie

Carl Wastie and I. Carl Wastie 1 on 1 with Carl Wastie So, I got to sit down and have a good chat with energetic media personality, Carl Wastie at a popular restaurant in Cape Town. Known for his dynamite (literally, after all, dynamite does come in small packages), who cam miss his funky mohawk? Carl is friendly and super-humble . Who is Carl Wastie in a nutshell? He is a Cape Town-based individual that feels that humility is more important than talent. I studied psychology at UCT and later worked at a video shop. People from Good Hope FM saw me at an MC gig, all thanks to the people at the video shop. So, I could say, I started my career in the entertainment industry out of a video shop. You can't believe in luck and hard work at the same time, because lucky people are those who are at the right place, at the right time. Hard workers put themselves in the right place and get there at the right time. Since then, people Good Hope FM spotted me and then Expresso . I
