+ exclusive interview

The Best of Divas, Divos and Duets was held at the GrandWest Arena on Saturday, 20 February 2016.
International singer, Judy Boucher and I.
It was International singing sensation, Judy Boucher who stole the show. The audience erupted into a wild applause as she made her way on to stage. "Cape Town is like my second home. It is one of my favourite cities in the whole world," she boasted. Judy serenaded the thousands of people present with her classic songs such as Can't Be With You Tonight and Tears on My Pillow.
Other favourite's on the night were Robin Pieters, Karin Kortje, Alistair Izobell and Garth Taylor. Karin took the audience on a trip down memory lane singing hits such as her first single after winning Idols in 20O5, I'm So Ready. Alistair also took the audience on a trip down memory with his version of Venice.

When I met Judy Boucher backstage...
When I get to introduce myself to Judy Boucher#OhMyGucci

It's one of those scenarios that felt unrealistic and impossible, until it actually happened. I made my way backstage and was told I have 5 minutes to talk to her. I introduced myself to her. Yes, she had difficulty pronouncing my name as most people do.  We went into a room and sat down along with her backing singers. I was able to compose myself. No, there was no time to even pinch myself, or think wow is this really happening?

We spoke for about 5 minutes about fashion, her music career and her thoughts on our beautiful Mother City.

An autograph, yes please!

Q and A with Judy Boucher
If you could define Cape Town in a few words, how would you define it?
It's great and wonderful. It’s a good time of the year, because it’s summer. I’ve been here in the past when it was winter. It was cold and very windy. This time of year, it's really nice and warm.

How would you define your style?
I tend to shop for clothing that is not cheap, but timeless. I don’t buy a dress that I wear today, and can’t wear it next week. I always try to dress properly and wear my own style.

What are your thoughts on the Cape Town music industry?
I’m loving it. It’s really amazing. Since my first show in South Africa, I was blown away.

If there is anything you would like Capetonians to know about you, what would it be?

I love Cape Town. It’s very much like my birthplace St. Vincent in the Caribbean. It’s like my second home. I often mention Cape Town a lot on my social media.

What would you say are some of your career highlights?
Definitely, when I first charted in the music business in 1985, and releasing my debut album Can't Be With You Tonight in 1986. Coming to South Africa for the first time was also a big highlight for me.

Where to next for Judy Boucher after leaving South Africa?
I will be catching up with family in London, then go back to St. Vincent in the Caribbean, which is my birthplace. I'm preparing for the launch of my autobiography. It’s complete, I am in the process of looking for publishers.

1 on 1 with Carl Wastie

Carl Wastie and I. Carl Wastie 1 on 1 with Carl Wastie So, I got to sit down and have a good chat with energetic media personality, Carl Wastie at a popular restaurant in Cape Town. Known for his dynamite (literally, after all, dynamite does come in small packages), who cam miss his funky mohawk? Carl is friendly and super-humble . Who is Carl Wastie in a nutshell? He is a Cape Town-based individual that feels that humility is more important than talent. I studied psychology at UCT and later worked at a video shop. People from Good Hope FM saw me at an MC gig, all thanks to the people at the video shop. So, I could say, I started my career in the entertainment industry out of a video shop. You can't believe in luck and hard work at the same time, because lucky people are those who are at the right place, at the right time. Hard workers put themselves in the right place and get there at the right time. Since then, people Good Hope FM spotted me and then Expresso . I
