Sasha-Lee Davids in the spotlight!

SASHA- LEE DAVIDS IN THE SPOTLIGHT!

 #Profile
  Full Name:Sasha-Lee Davids

Season 9 of South African Idols, mzansi’s  biggest Singing Competition reality show, starts this month !Keeping up with the pre-new season hype, I caught  up with joint 2009 Idols winner, Sasha-Lee Davids

Fresh-faced out of Matric, Sasha- Lee Davids from Atlantis in Cape Town entered Idols in 2009,and managed to stand out from the crowed with her sweet, sultry voice  ,compared to that of EX-factor winner Le
ona Lewis. She was crowned the winner of season 5.However, it was later revealed that  a mix up of public votes occurred.

So, a peculiar decision was then made to crown both Jason Hartman and Sasha-Lee co-winners of Season 9.Sasha-Lee remains grateful for the platform Idols has given her ,where she learnt a lot and 'found her voice!'

Life after idols...

So, how has her life changed since, she won? ‘’It's been pretty good,'' she
says enthusiastically. Only 18-years-old at the time, she spent months in Johannesburg, adjusting to life away from her parents.Since then, the biggest change has been a life of glitz and glamour.

Since, being crowned the co-winner of Idols in 2009, she released her debut album,Sasha-Lee featuring her popular single, True believer, which became a hit on radio stations across South Africa, and was nominated for a SAMA .She continues to perform across South Africa, having performed alongside Idols Winner Karin Kortje, fellow contestant Jody Williams, and was the opening act of Wayne Brady SA tour.

Sasha composes her own lyrics, and has since become an independent artist,no longer affiliated with Sony Bmg. She has also continued to travel abroad, and enjoyed sold-out shows in Belgium. In  2011, she received the green light ,along with her family to have their own reality show House of Davids aired on Kyknet and Mzansi Magic. Her reality show explored the life of her family, going behind the scenes of their busy lives. Season 1 of House of Davids proved to be a great success. She has also done her fair share of travelling to places including the U.K, and took previously took a 2 year break from the public eye "to find herself" and to spend time with her family.
Now...
Currently, Sasha-Lee has her eye set on releasing her new single, Girl behind the wall soon, already released in Namibia. She is also currently in the process of writing and recording some new music. So, hopefully  fans can expect an album by next year, bring it on !House of Davids fans will be happy to know that Season 2 is well on its way as the Davids family, is currently filming a new season."It’s all pretty exciting,"she says.

Sasha admits she has not had much time to follow South African Idols, although her personal favourite contestants include Elvis Blue and Lloyd Cele. Her thoughts on last season? ‘’Last season anyone could've won, because they were all super talented,’’ she adds. Reality shows such as Idols often gets critiqued for its fast track to fame nature.

However, its all about hard work ."Yes, as glamorous and easy as it seems, it's still a whole lot of  hard work you have to put into your everyday living. but yes, when it's glamorous? It really is!,"
she says. In the music industry she admires artists such as Lira and Micasa , as despite success they’ve stayed humble .

If she could collaborate with any artists, it would definitely be Ryan Tedder from One Republic, and Josh Groban. Being an independent artist,  she is no longer affiliated with Sony Bmg has proved to be rather challenging, working and doing everything herself has been stressful, but she has learnt a lot about industry.

Three words that best describe Sasha-Lee are 1. perfectionist - as she likes things to be perfect 2.organised - as she likes everything to be in order and 3.joker - she enjoys laughing. Sasha-Lee initially had her eye set on studying Journalism and Photography after matric, but clearly gave into her ‘singing calling'

If she is not on stage, she enjoys watching movies, and jokes about how the best part about going to the movies is the popcorn. What many people don’t know is that she she is obsessed with cooking channels, and even sleeps with the light on.
Yes, she has had her fair share of crazy fan moments, the craziest being when a guy went down on all fours and proposed to her.

Does fame ever get too much, for Miss Sasha? "I wouldn't say that it gets too much, at the end of the day, everyone who chose or chooses this career is well aware of what craziness can happen, sometimes,’’she says.

Her message to aspiring entertainers?"It's not easy re-inventing yourself to stay on top and certainly not easy getting to the top. That's why, if you LOVE what you do, u manage to survive:)".

Season 9 of South African Idols starts 21 July 2013 on M-net ,channel 101 and Mzansi Magic ,channel 161.

1 on 1 with Carl Wastie

Carl Wastie and I. Carl Wastie 1 on 1 with Carl Wastie So, I got to sit down and have a good chat with energetic media personality, Carl Wastie at a popular restaurant in Cape Town. Known for his dynamite (literally, after all, dynamite does come in small packages), who cam miss his funky mohawk? Carl is friendly and super-humble . Who is Carl Wastie in a nutshell? He is a Cape Town-based individual that feels that humility is more important than talent. I studied psychology at UCT and later worked at a video shop. People from Good Hope FM saw me at an MC gig, all thanks to the people at the video shop. So, I could say, I started my career in the entertainment industry out of a video shop. You can't believe in luck and hard work at the same time, because lucky people are those who are at the right place, at the right time. Hard workers put themselves in the right place and get there at the right time. Since then, people Good Hope FM spotted me and then Expresso . I
