PROFILE

Jimmy Nevis

D.O.B:1 January 1993

“I was expecting some success at some stage - but not as awesome as what it is now’’

Jimmy Nevis started out as ‘’the boy-next-door’’, hustling to make it into the South African music industry.Today, he is one of mzansi’s finest , young alternative pop muzo’s, not only because of his musical talent, but because of his like-able personality, charm and he of course oozes cuteness!Their is certainly lots to learn from 20-year-old Jimmy, from Constantia in Cape Town, currently making waves not only locally, but internationally too, following his music being playlisted in the U.S.A recently, and scoring an exclusive deal with  award-winning record label, Ultra Records based in the states.

‘’I was expecting some success at some stage - but not as awesome as what it is now,’’says Jimmy as he takes time out of his hectic schedule to chat to funkysheerahd.blogspot.com Currently, a third year Media and Writing student at the University of Cape Town, while Jimmy remains a role model to many young people across mzansi, his role models include his parents ''My role models are my parents - they have so much knowledge and experience and give the best advice.’’he says.Jimmy’s musical role models include Jamie Cullum, Jay Z , Beyonce, and Coldplay. He admits that instant success has been rather overwhelming.

A typical day in the life of Jimmy is rather busy and chaotic(I can imagine), as he finds himself having to juggle between studying, performing, rehearsals, interviews and the list goes on and on!He reveals that some of the challenges he has had to deal with, being in the entertainment industry include, staying grounded.’’ Staying humble and grounded is a constant mental thought. It's easy to get caught up in everything,’’he says.Meanwhile, he adds that staying relevant has proved to be a challenge. ‘’you constantly need to be working and giving your best if you want to continuously make an impact,’’he adds.Despite rejection starting out in the industry, passion is just one of many elements that has kept him motivated. His love for the entertainment industry and genuine desire to thrive in the industry has also kept him motivated.

When asked to choose any local artist(s)he would like to collaborate with he singled out Mi casa well, his wish has since been granted as he spent time with Mi casa in studio recently and will be featuring on their second album.Believe it or not, Jimmy has had his fair share of embarrassing moments onstage. He reveals his most embarrassing moment onstage was when words accidently slipped out of his mouth. "My most embarrassing moment on stage  was when I told everyone in this club to go crazy and act like they're on tik! It just came out. I meant to say that people should go crazy and jump - but I got my words tied up,‘’ he says.(Big oops!). Jimmy also reveals that the craziest fan moment his experienced thus far has been when someone licked his face.wow…Known to attract many screaming girls at his concerts, etc Jimmy  reveals  that he is still  ‘’single like a pringle”,he says(now form an orderly queue ladies!)
Fan Moments…

19-year-old Taylor Nicole Constable from Cape Town refers to herself as Jimmy Nevis' number one fan and biggest heartboxer ever! She knows all the words to his music and remains a regular groupie at his gigs.Taylor  remembers the day she purchased Jimmy Nevis album, Subliminal last year ‘’The meanings to all his songs is what spoke to me. He writes songs that happen in our daily lives and that we can relate to," she says. She arrived three hours early at his album launch at Auto Atlantic Mini in Cape Town late last year, as she was filled with excitement and got the opportunity to meet Jimmy during his rehearsals that day.Eager to get her copy of Subliminal signed by Jimmy, she made her way to N1 City Mall in April this year, ‘’Jimmy Nevis is very down to earth. I'm in love with his music, but not only that, his personality too’’she says.Being a big fan of Jimmy, she got invited to his manager Lauren-Ashleigh Parks 26th Birthday Party that same night. He is unique, talented  and his passion for music is what intrigues me. I'm in love with both his music videos namely Heartboxing and In Love With You. I don't go a day without listening to his music, ‘’she adds.
MORE  Q AND A WITH JIMMY NEVIS…

-You’ve recently signed an international record deal and had your music played in the U.S.A.What has the experience and response been like?
It's been great!

-Since you broke out into the music scene last year, you’ve enjoyed insane success. Did you expect to be as successful as you are?Yes, actually. I just didn't expect for it to happen so soon. When I started this whole thing, I didn't plan to fail – I knew what I was getting myself into and so I was expecting some success at some stage - but not as awesome as what it is now.

-If you could collaborate with any local and international artists who would it be? Mi Casa and Coldplay.

-Music on your playlist at the moment? Kriss Kross jump, Janet Jackson and Rhythm Nation.

What many people do not know about Jimmy is that he has a fear of snakes, enjoys scrabble and hiking!

Message of inspiration to the youth? Initiate your dreams and don't be afraid to be somebody and make an impact.

1 on 1 with Carl Wastie

Carl Wastie and I. Carl Wastie 1 on 1 with Carl Wastie So, I got to sit down and have a good chat with energetic media personality, Carl Wastie at a popular restaurant in Cape Town. Known for his dynamite (literally, after all, dynamite does come in small packages), who cam miss his funky mohawk? Carl is friendly and super-humble . Who is Carl Wastie in a nutshell? He is a Cape Town-based individual that feels that humility is more important than talent. I studied psychology at UCT and later worked at a video shop. People from Good Hope FM saw me at an MC gig, all thanks to the people at the video shop. So, I could say, I started my career in the entertainment industry out of a video shop. You can't believe in luck and hard work at the same time, because lucky people are those who are at the right place, at the right time. Hard workers put themselves in the right place and get there at the right time. Since then, people Good Hope FM spotted me and then Expresso . I

Their ability to perfect harmonies, vibey personalities, energy when performing and ability to make ladies go gaga, is what makes them too cool, to be ordinary!
